I had 2 conversations
today that were exactly the same. The
conversations went like this:
Me: You need to wear a heavy coat today. It’s supposed to be really cold all day.
Other person: I don’t need a coat. My jacket will be enough. I’ll be fine.
Me: No, you will not be. The temperature is already low so you need a
heavy coat now and you will definitely need one tonight. The temperature is going to continue to fall
all day long and you’ll be happy for that coat.
You’ll especially need a coat when we come home from church
tonight. It’ll be around 25 degrees
then.
Other person: Oh, I’ll be fine. I’ll be in the heated car except for just
going in and out of the church and then I’ll be in the church where it’s
heated. .
Me: Well, you’re going to wear a coat
anyway. Just humor me.
Both persons ended up
wearing a coat –
because I said
so.
And both persons were
happy that I had them wear a heavy coat –
because it was cold.
The two people I made
wear coats today were my Wesley (who just hates wearing a coat) and my dad (who
just thought it was unnecessary).
The interesting thing
is that this kind of thing happens very often in my world.
I have similar
conversations like this a lot…
…with my sons and
with my 72 year old father.
Just part of being a caretaker – of the young and the not so young.
