Beach Trip September 18 - 20, 2015

We spent September 18 - 20, 2015 at the beach.

We had GREAT weather
and packed a lot of fun
into our short 2 day trip!

We had a great time!

The fun started on the trip down there.  It was just Wesley, Luke, and me at the beginning.
We were meeting Anna and my Aunt Patricia (Trishy) at Trishy's house.

We turned up the music and sang and drummed away!

We had to quiet down a little after picking up Anna and Trishy.
Anna had a paper due by midnight the next day so she worked on that until dark.

Our night view from our room.

Waiting to be seated for the breakfast buffet.

My little engineer always building something.
He was trying to balance all of the milk cartons into a tower.
It worked but I didn't get the photo in time.

Looking and deciding what to do first!

So I wanted a balcony photo of Anna but she is so afraid of heights
that this is the closest to the balcony railings that I could get her to go!

She still wouldn't get close to the railings.

She would stand at this opening because the bottom was a concrete wall and not railings!
:)

Blurry photo but it's the only one of us all ready to go out to eat...

...at one of our favorite places!

Luke, on his own, packed a shirt of his dad's just to wear to the restaurant.
It was one of Rob's favorite places to eat.

We only had to wait 45 minutes...

...but it's always worth it.
My kids LOVE this place
and Wesley and Anna especially love the crab legs.

I blame Rob for teaching Wesley how to do this stuff.
He would be doing it too!

Wesley's "hand."

Luke decided to try the crab legs this time.

He didn't like them.

After dinner, the kids wanted to play in the game room at our hotel.

Wesley being my Wesley!

As I said, we had great weather the entire weekend to
enjoy the beauty of God surrounding us at every turn!

I loved this feature in our room.
Every time I walked in the hallway and caught a glimpse
of this stained glass window,
it gave me such a serene and peaceful feeling.

Trips away during this time period help me.
I think it helps my kids too.

But, as soon as we got our condo room assignment,
I immediately thought of my Rob
and what I gained and lost by him.

See, (as I said in an earlier blog post), our room number was 1623.

"16" was the date of my first date with my Rob.

"23" was the date of the day he was buried.

The beginning
and
the end.

It took me almost 3 weeks to sleep through the night right after Rob died.
At the very beginning, I would only sleep for a few minutes at a time.
Then it went to a couple of hours at a time.
But no matter how much I slept for the first few weeks,
I would
ALWAYS,
without fail,
wake up between 4:10 and 4:20 a.m.
Rob died at 4:13 a.m. and it was almost as if,
for those first few weeks,
my body would wake up out of shock
EVERY SINGLE MORNING
between 4:10 and 4:20.

It was pure torture.

Thank God that hasn't happened in years.

This year, though,
it did.

I awoke at 4:13 a.m. on the dot.
I didn't cry.
It wasn't torture.

In fact, I thought about how much Rob
must be enjoying Heaven.

I prayed for myself.
I prayed for my widowed friends,
especially the newly widowed ones.
I prayed for my children to have a fun-filled, peaceful day.

And then I snapped this photo at 4:19 a.m.
because I wanted to make sure to remember to write about how
God has never left me during these 4 years.

And I want those who are new to this club that no one ever asks to join
to know there will come a time when you can remember
without so much pain.

At least that's the way it's worked for me.

My Rob has been gone for 4 years now.

My children have all 4 mourned and grieved differently.
I will not talk about their private thoughts
but I can safely say
that we are all doing well.

I will always miss my Rob.

Our kids will always miss their dad.

But we are all okay.

I can say that my heart has healed.

But I will never, ever, forget.
