Saturday, December 11, 2021 (Wesley's 1st Flight)

I totally forgot to do a blog post last Saturday

about an important day!

Wesley, Luke, and I got up at 2 a.m. last Saturday

to take Wesley to the airport for

his very first flight ever!

Wesley has decided he wants to be a pilot

so this was his first chance to fly!

By the time he gets back home on Wednesday,

he will have taken 4 flights total.

He flew to visit his sister (Crystol) and brother-in-law (Alan).

They picked him up at the airport.

Thank you to Joan and Scot for such a great Christmas gift!

And thank you to Crystol and Alan for picking him up

hosting him at your house!

Wesley loved the flights (even with the turbulence)

and is excited about his future as a pilot!

"Untitled Hymn" - October 24, 2021

Luke's voice teacher at his college asked him to sing at her church.

Today was the day and he did such a wonderful job
singing to her beautiful accompaniment.

And I am so proud of him!

(Sorry about the shaky hands video.
Honestly, I was watching him so intently
that I didn't even look at the phone as it was recording.)

"Do The Next Thing"

  I first heard this quote
on the radio
way back in the late 1980's
when I was working full time at
a Christian Counseling Center during the day
and I was in college at night.

I will never forget this quote's impact
on my life way back then
nor will I forget its impact
on my life since then.

So many times throughout my life,
this quote has been an internal mantra.

I'm thankful I heard it early in life
because it has always been a help.

Ima

My maternal grandmother,

Ima Beck Hussey,

would be 97 today.

I learned a lot from her.

She was one of the best humans I've ever known!

Daddy

I've really been missing my daddy lately.

It's so hard to believe he has been in Heaven for 4 1/2 years now.

This blog post from 2013 popped up today in my memories

and it made me smile to remember that day.

I am thankful my daddy was my daddy.

World Communion Sunday / Watching My Daddy Sunday

Today was World Communion Sunday.

The pastor at our church asked my dad to help him administer the sacrament of communion to our congregation.

My dad was thrilled...

...to be invited to help...

...symbolically offer the "body of our precious Jesus Christ..."

...and to remind us to "Take and be thankful" as we each took our bread.

Offering communion to those wheelchair bound.

And even though my dad's strength has waned and his memory leaves much to long for on many days, his desire to be needed in ministry and appreciation that he was used by God today reminds me once again that our strength comes from God and God alone.

In so very many ways now, I take care of my father just like I do one of my children.

But for those brief moments this morning, while I watched him tear up momentarily as he tenderly and compellingly said, "The precious body of our Lord Jesus Christ - Take and be thankful,"
and as I took the bread from him,
it felt like he was in the father role again and was very much the very vibrant minister I remember.

I needed that today and I am thankful.
